I called my medical providers yesterday — my calendar said I have labs today at 2, and there was a chance I messed up my calendar, and they usually call me the prior business day to remind me.  Well, they told me my labs appointment was YESTERDAY at 2 (it was 2:45 at the time of the phone call).  I checked on my next doctor’s appt., which should be next Tuesday, and they told me it was next Monday…  must have shifted both appts on my calendar.  At any rate, I got them to reschedule the labs for today, without which I would have needed to reschedule the doctor.

I got a stormtrooper letter from my housing coordinator.  Seems like many of the people in the housing program have generously opened their homes to others, thus further alleviating the homelessness problem — and we were ordered to stop doing so, at the risk of being kicked out of the program.  Seems like our benevolent government, which only provides housing for about 10% of those who need it, would rather see more people sleeping on the streets (or in jail) than see their housing dollars maximized.  I can’t tell you how much this hurts me.  It also further marginalizes the people being “helped”.  What sense does this make?

OK, there were 32 people in the jury pool, and they went through 16 to seat a jury of 12 plus one alternate.  It was only the luck of the draw that kept me from being seated.  This also freed me up for the rest of my week.

News: Gary Gygax died today, age 69.  This man almost single-handedly changed the culture, as co-inventor and publisher of the game, Dungeons & Dragons.  No matter what you think of the game or gaming itself, you gotta admit his effect on our lives.  This is, shall we say, a critical hit.  He may soon be rolling in his grave, but the question is, which dice will he be using?  For the complete story, go here.

Well, I’ve had a couple of weeks “off”, and now it’s back into the swing.

I have to report for jury duty at 8:45 am… those of you who know me know how unlikely it is that I will show up rested…  I have a meeting on Tuesday, a doctor’s appt Wednesday, and my usual AHN meeting on Thursday, any and all of which may have to be cancelled if I get on a jury.

My friend Mike spent 3 nights on my couch, but has found (or is trying to find) other accommodations.  He has some more options, but none of them add up to housing at the present moment.  It has been frustrating, as I’ve been working with him for two months and still haven’t found him any long-term solutions to his housing problems.  He does not blame me for any of it, for which I am grateful — it would be far too easy to beat myself up over this.

Guess that’s it for now.

Me
