The voice of our original self is often muffled, overwhelmed, even strangled, by the voices of other people’s expectations.
– Julie Cameron

You can own your own power.  You do not have to stand there with
your hands tied, groveling helplessly, and submitting to whatever comes
along.  There are lots of things you can do.  You can speak
up.  You can assert your own wants and needs.  You can solve
problems.  You can create problems for others to motivate them to
take responsibility for themselves.  You can use your own problems
to invite you to take responsibility for yourself.  You can let go
of your fear of the future.  You can stop avoiding the future by
scaring yourself with “what if” questions.  You can choose how you
want to respond to ANY event or circumstance.
You can make yourself feel good.  You can do something good for
yourself.  You can walk away, and come back only on your own
terms. You can stand up for yourself.  You can refuse to let
others control and manipulate you.  You can do whatever it takes
to take good care of yourself.
– Lloyd J. Thomas

To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take nothing
for granted, but to always seek out and value the kindness that stands
behind the action. Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course.
Everything originates in a will for the good, which is directed at you.
Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression
of gratitude.
– Albert Schweitzer

Show me the man you honor, and I will know what kind of man you are.
– Thomas Carlyle

As long as we have hope, we have direction, the energy to move, and the

infinity of dreams. Hopeful, we are halfway to where we want to go;
hopeless, we are lost forever…

Seek goodness in others. Love more persons… more impersonally, more

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have
more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so
they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You
must first be who you really are, then do what you love to do, in order
to have what you want.

Trouble is a part of your life, and if you don’t share it, you don’t give the person who loves you a chance to love you enough.

I’ve had lots of experiences of moving away from the loving and moving

Time is a scale we created in order to measure our worldly
accomplishments. Time makes you rush to accomplish something. Time
makes you believe you should be accomplishing something other than what
you have already done. Accomplishments, no matter what you call them,
even that of being on a holy crusade, are only as temporary as your
life. Great artists, scientists – and even holy men – also die.
– Zen O’Clock

When we stay in the here and now of the present, we find more laughter
and fewer tears. The problem for many of us is that we bury the tears
of yesterday and carry them into our tomorrows. Instead, let’s choose
to cry when we are hurt, smile when we are happy and welcome each new
day with hope and humor.

SOME WAYS TO LOVE YOURSELF

•        Acknowledge your divinity and your beauty.
•        Take note of what you say
and what you think about yourself.  Eliminate those put downs such
as “I am a clumsy idiot” Say instead, “That was a silly thing to do”.
Put aggression towards the incident instead of towards yourself.
•        Laugh at yourself but not in a derogatory way.
•        You are No 1. Put yourself first always.
•        Spend time doing what you really want to do for yourself.
•        Focus on your spiritual and physical needs before your wants.
•        Follow through on a project.
•        Do not waste time on trivia.
•        Learn from everything you do without judging yourself.
•        Throw out old possessions.
•        Always know what you want, so others can not tell you.
•        Be loyal to yourself and always make goals.
•        State what your boundaries are, so people respect you.
•       Take time to meditate and relax.
•        Do things for yourself that you do not usually do.
•        Buy something for yourself that you would not buy before.
•        Let go of authority
figures. Stand up for yourself. Look at the beauty around you – the
trees and parks.
•        Keep your home tidy for yourself.
•        Take more care with your clothing.
•       Take more care with what you eat.
•        Ask a friend to list your five good qualities.
•        Think of someone you admire
and write their good qualities that you see in them. You then know that
you have those qualities in you because you could not see them
otherwise.

The play of life is not a separate creation watched and presided over
by You. You – Consciousness – appear presently as the play, already
wide awake, unable therefore to awaken. You are always obvious to
Yourself; never hidden.

The characters in the play have no separate existence, only an apparent
one. The characters are You celebrating Yourself, immersed in the great
play of life, playing the game of looking for Yourself, sometimes
recognising Yourself within and as the appearance of Your play.

This communication about clarity has no particular relevance or
significance over any other part of the play. It carries no merit and
has no point. There is no purpose for You to find Yourself.

With clarity, all of this is made obvious – Your present appearance as
the play in all its myriad forms, the recognition of the non-necessity
of everything.

Right now You are Consciousness, appearing as a character in Your play.
Maybe You think You need confirmation. Forget it. Relax. You already
are That.

With much love to You from Yourself.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the
final good-bye.
I WISH YOU ENOUGH SO WHEN YOUR WISH COMES TO YOU YOU WILL KNOW YOU HAVE ENOUGH.

Lots of good things happening, slowly, slowly.  AHN is getting
more donations than we planned for… not so much as to consider
expanding programs, but enough to know we have a place in this
town.  Mountain Xpress, the weekly cultural paper, is doing an
article on us soon… I interviewed for it on Monday.  Pathways
Sanctuary is near re-birth.  Kindness Campaign is giving some
all-day seminars over the next two months, which I will be
attending.  My nights are lonely but my days are full.  I
anticipate that will be the case until I learn to not be lonely.
I have given myself 3 years to learn that.

OK, fortune cookie time.  Love you all.

I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a
day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my
past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or
pain, what other people think of me or say about me, my circumstances,
or my position. Attitude is that “single string” that keeps me going or
cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When
my attitudes are right, there’s no barrier too high, no valley too
deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.
– Charles R. Swindoll

It’s a matter of loving yourself enough to clarify and clear the
channel so that your success can manifest in reality, in this lifetime,
for you to have, enjoy, and share.
– John-Roger, Wealth & Higher Consciousness

Rather than play the victim in an attempt to control others while
justifying your own negative reactions, you can clean up, clear up, get
up, and be up with the Spirit that breathes you and prepares every
single moment with full access to the blessings.
– John Morton

Whenever your mind tries to distract you with negative thoughts, or
self-doubt, or comparisons with other people, just tell it: “I know
you’re there. You’re always there. You’re not going to go away. But
today I’m not going to let you bother me, because I want to experience
something else.”
– John-Roger with Paul Kaye, Momentum, Letting Love Lead – Simple Practices for Spiritual Living

We all have forgiveness work to do. If you’re wondering if this is
true, ask yourself, “Am I breathing?”  If the answer is yes, the
answer is yes. Ask Spirit, “Who would you have me forgive today?”
Sometimes our hardest forgiveness work is with ourselves.
– Mary Manin Morrissey

Spirit has placed a dream in your heart for a better world, starting

Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you is determinism; the way you play it is free will.
– Jawaharlal Nehru

The use of deceit and deception is a way of ensuring the survival of
the ego. The presence of your authentic self would send the ego
scurrying away because it would have no purpose. When you are in tune
with God, living your spiritual life, you have no need for anything
that is not authentic. Your ego needs the deceptive behavior to
maintain its own survival.
– Wayne Dyer

When you rely upon deception, you are falling victim to the
approval-seeking game. Your false self is what you want others to see
of you, so you project an image of yourself that is based on distortion
rather than reality.  This is the same as saying, ‘What you think
of me is more important than what I think of myself…’ With this
attitude, your ego can keep you from taking any risks, including making
any spiritual changes in your life. The more you stay in the same skin,
wearing the same masks, the more ego succeeds in keeping your from your
higher self.

When we take the responsibility we must then take control of our
thoughts.  And, yes, in the beginning that can be hard.  It
seems sometimes that it’s our nature to first think negatively. But
that’s just because it’s the habit we’ve developed.  And like any
habit, it can be changed by replacing it with the habit of thinking the
right way.
– Vic Johnson

The divine path can be called many things. But it is what it is,
whether we like it or not. It will be what it will be, and we cannot
change it. We do not even have the wit to change ourselves, so how
could we have the wit to change the divine path? We don’t even have the
wit to walk upon it. We walk across it into the brambles and briers on
each side. The disturbance you feel comes from being off your spiritual
path. You can be off it physically and have great physical disturbance.
You can be off it emotionally and have depressions or distress. You can
be off it mentally and lose your mental balance.

But I’ll tell you something interesting. You can’t be off it spiritually.

If you can be off it spiritually, it isn’t a spiritual path that you’re
on, it’s psychism. When people’s delusions are placed in front of you,
use them as stepping stones, not stumbling blocks, because they’re just
casting shadows in front of you. Keep your eye on them, look at them,
and then go through them to the Light beyond the shadow.

– John-Roger, “Light Behind the Shadows”

Imperfection lies in your attitude, which comes from the programmed mind; that’s what stirs up the confusion.

Sometimes if you just stop thinking for a while, things can get very
nice for you. You can get so many things done because there are few
problems when you are not saying “good” or “bad” to every situation.
When you just say, “There it is,” it’s easy.

Now, you don’t play the fool and close your eyes to the reality of your
situation. But knowing something exists, and giving energy into that,
happen to be two different approaches.

– John-Roger, The Way Out Book

Knowledge devoid of devotion is like chewing stones.
– Mata Amritanandamayi

If you decide to leave one relationship because you are unwilling to
forgive, what makes you think that you can succeed in another? It’s
true, people are different and some people push your buttons more than
others, but everyone is imperfect and everyone is going to push your
buttons at one time or other. You ability to create a successful
relationship depends not so much on your choice of partner, but on your
willingness to forgive yourself and the partner you choose. By all
means, hold out for the partner you want. Insist on common goals,
shared interests and mutual attraction. Abandon any relationship that
promises to be abusive, even though you might eventually learn
something there. Don’t play the game of love with half a deck.

As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the
fact that these hugecreatures were being held by only a small rope
tied   to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was
obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their
bonds but for some reason, they did not.

I saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent
animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” he
said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size
rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they
grow up, they are conditioned  to believe they cannot break
away.  They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never
try to break free.”

I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their
bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right
where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a
belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once
before?

The most important part of prayer is what we feel, not what we say. We
spend a great deal of time telling God what we think should be done,
and not enough time waiting in the stillness for God to tell us what to
do.

A Course In Miracles

Attachment to being right creates suffering. When you have a choice to

Wayne Dyer, Everyday Wisdom

There is a distance between believing the Truth and embodying that
Truth. We may know that we are children of God with divine capacities,
but until we act on that belief, it remains a foggy awareness. Using
spiritual practices moves us from believing in God to becoming aware of
the reality of God moving in and through us.
– Mary Manin Morrissey

Some people fear that trusting their intuition will lead them to do
things that are purely selfish, irresponsible, or hurtful to others. In
reality, the opposite is true. Since intuition is connected to our
souls and to the universal intelligence, it is always guiding us to our
own highest good and the greater good for all concerned.
When we follow our intuition, we sometimes behave in new and different
ways, and others may sometimes be temporarily disappointed or upset.
For example, if you are a very giving person who has always tried to
please and care for others, your intuition may push you to learn to say
“no” when you really don’t want to do something, and to set better
boundaries with people. At first, this might upset someone. In the long
run, however, you and everyone else you relate to will be healthier and
happier because of this change.
– Shakti Gawain

Release all judgment from your manifestation practice. The universal
law is not a dual energy. It does not operate on the same dualism that
works here on the earth plane. It does not discriminate or work on a
good/bad, right/wrong basis. There is just one energy that permeates
all things, and everything is a part of that power.
– Wayne Dyer, Manifest Your Destiny

Know the connection between manifesting your heart’s desire and
unconditional love. Unconditional love is the energy of the universe,
it is what God is, and, therefore, what you are as well. Without your
connection to this love, you lose your connection to the creative
process. You cannot attract to yourself that which you are already
connected to if you have short-circuited the connection. The presence
of unconditional love is in all things that your wish to attract as
well as in you. Keep it honestly, and you keep your ability to “know
that ye are a god.” Lose it, and you lose your godliness. It is that
simple.
– Wayne Dyer, Manifest Your Destiny

Scarcity is an important teacher. Every perception of lack in your
surroundings mirrors an inner feeling of unworthiness that must be
brought into conscious awareness. The experience of scarcity is not God
punishing you. It is you showing yourself a belief that needs to be
corrected.
– Paul Ferrini, Love Without Conditions

Forgiveness remains the only path that leads out of hell. Whether we’re
forgiving our parents, someone else, or ourselves, the laws of mind

deny love, we shall remain in pain.
– Marianne Williamson

You reshape the world by reshaping yourself. The question is not how to change others, but how to change yourself.
– Gary Zukav & Linda Francis, The Heart of the Soul

Why on earth do you think we’re allowed so many mistakes?
Because God loves us.

Why do you allow your children so many mistakes? You knew they had to
make them. Why did you show them how to do it better? Because you knew
how to correct their mistakes so they didn’t have to do it over and
over.

If you do that to your children, then would not God do that to us? He
does do it to us. We’re allowed the choices of mistakes until hell
won’t have it. And since hell won’t have it, heaven will.

Chief Joseph:

Dear ones, whatever or whoever you perceive the divine power that rules
the Universe to be, your perceptions are often flawed. You generally
ascribe to this divine power (let’s call it God to simplify our
conversation) qualities and characteristics that are–we think your term
is–anthropomorphic. That is, you view non-human beings as having human
traits. And that simply is not the case.

In the matter we’re discussing today, the view of most humans (at least
those who believe in God or a god) is God is on our side and against
our enemies. Therefore, you pray to him/her/it for victory to you and
defeat to your enemy.

Can you see how flawed such an attitude is? If God created all that is,
if God is all that is, then how can God take up your cause and rail
against your enemy’s cause? It ain’t gonna happen, dear ones! God does
not take sides.

In fact, it’s impossible for God to take sides. How could he/she/it–who
is, after all, ALL that is–partition itself and favor one part over
another? That is utterly impossible. And that view is utterly human.

The only way a human could pray to God for victory in battle (which
obviously means defeat for the other side) is because he/she has a
limited, anthropomorphic, and just plain distorted, idea of what God
truly is.

When it comes to war, God doesn’t care who wins, who loses. Those are human struggles and God takes no part in them.

What God does do, however, is to allow all humans to play their game,
whether the game be making love or making war. Games are supposed to be
fun. However, and we don’t need to remind you of this, your games are
often anything but fun for you. And that’s okay with God.

God loves you all unconditionally and eternally. You are loved. Period. And “you” means all of you–you and your enemy.

God loves you so very much he/she/it is willing to allow you total
freedom to play out your life game any way you choose. You are all free
to create whatever reality you want. But you will not get it done in
this lifetime, or in any other. In fact, you will never finish creating
your realities.

You are eternal beings of light. Growth is your game. You’re destined
to play the game forever. And God doesn’t care how you play it. That’s
because you are God. And you get to do it your way.

No matter how terrible or tragic any event appears from your human
perspective, it’s all part of the game. And in the “end,” you all win
when you remember who you are. When you remember you’re creating the
world you’re experiencing, because you are God, every one of you.

And you’ll all make it Home–you and your enemy. You are your enemy. Your enemy is you.

– Chief Joseph

So many good things are happening.  I know there will be setbacks, but I know how to handle them.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday was SerpentStone Yule Gathering.  I
was welcomed with open arms, lots of love, and had a pretty good haul
in the gifties department too.

Saturday I learned that a friend of mine had gotten her grant proposal
accepted — and it includes lots of money for me to write a website for
her.

Monday I got the paperwork back from the NC Secretary of State,
accepting Asheville Homeless Network as a non-profit corporation (not
501(c)(3) yet).  Also opened a checking account for AHN.

I had a very life-affirming conversation with my mother.  I would
still like to know which aliens kidnapped the mom I grew up with and
left this wonderful person in her place — so I could thank them.

And then John took me to Pizza Hut tonight.  Yum.

And that’s not everything.  Hope life is treating you as well, and you are welcome to borrow some of my good fortune.

Hugs,
Me

Things keep going well.  I donated a couple of extra blankets I
had to A-HOPE, along with a tote bag.  Walked around town a
bit.  Put up a couple business cards in Cats N Dawgs, took a stack
down in another shop that was out of date (will replace them
later).  Grabbed a whole bunch of Dar Williams song lyrics, and
practiced them… some will work with me, some won’t, but I’ll keep
trying.

Here’s my fortune cookie factory.  Enjoy.

It has been said “God is love” but that is not absolutely correct. God
is the One Life in and beyond the countless forms of life. Love implies
duality: lover and beloved, subject and object. So love is the

dense, more transparent to the divine dimension, the light of

Anger never benefits us.

We been told that we must express our anger, and that it’s necessary to
confront whomever is responsible for it. From the Course we are
learning something quite different. We are learning that anger is the
ego on the loose. Anger is never necessary; it is always a cry for
healing and help.

What does it mean when are the brunt of someone else’s anger? Shouldn’t
we at least address it? The Course says no. To address it is to make it
real, which fosters its manifestation again and again. Our better
response is to turn the other cheek, to offer loving forgiveness. Let’s
not forget that whatever we perceive in the experience we’ve attracted
directly reflects what we expected, what we projected, and what we
actually wanted, even though we may insist otherwise.

No doubt we’ve all heard someone say, “But anger energizes me.” Let’s
suggest they weigh the long-term results of the empowerment gained when
they say no to anger and yes to love. How good it feels to take charge
of our expressions.”

Anger may try to imprison me today, but I hold the key that opens the door to freedom and peace.

– Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course

Letting go is a spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical process, a
sometimes mysterious metaphysical process of releasing to God and the
Universe that which we are clinging to so tightly.

We let go of our grasp on people, outcomes, ideas, feelings, wants,
needs, desires – everything. Yes, it’s important to acknowledge and
accept what we want and what we want to happen. But it’s equally
important to follow through by letting go. Letting go is the action
part of faith. It is a behavior that gives God and the Universe
permission to send us what we’re meant to have.

Letting go means we acknowledge that hanging on so tightly isn’t
helping to solve the problem, change the person, or get the outcome we
desire. It isn’t helping us. In fact, we learn that hanging on often
blocks us from getting what we want and need.  Who are we to say
that things aren’t happening exactly as they need to happen?

There is magic in letting go. Sometimes we get what we want soon after
we let go. Sometimes it takes longer. Sometimes the specific outcome we
desire doesn’t happen. Something better does.

Letting go sets us free and connects us to our Source. Letting go
creates the optimum environment for the best possible outcomes and
solutions.

Today, I will relax. I will let go of that which is upsetting me the
most. I will trust that by letting go, I have started the wheels in
motion for things to work out in the best possible way.

Melody Beattie

=====

Remember, your inner world reflects your outer world. If you believe
you are not enough, you will validate that belief and create the
reality that you don’t have enough. On the other hand, if you believe
your are plenty, you will validate that believe and create plenty of
abundance. Why? because ‘plenty’ will be your root, which will then
become your natural way of being.
T. Harv Eker

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Albert Einstein

=====

Notice the acts of kindness other people do rather that their
wrongdoing. This is how the loving presence views you. We are all good,
decent, loving souls who occasionally get lost.
Wayne Dyer

=====

Generally speaking, we regard discomfort in any form as bad news. But
for practitioners or spiritual warriors – people who have a certain
hunger to know what is true – feelings like disappointment,
embarrassment, irritation, resentment, anger, jealousy, and fear,
instead of being bad news, are actually very clear moments that teach
us where it is that we’re holding back. They teach us to perk up and
lean in, when we feel we’d rather collapse and back away. They’re like
messengers that show us, with terrifying clarity, exactly where we’re
stuck. This very moment is the perfect teacher, and, lucky for us, it’s
with us wherever we are.
Pema Chödrön

=====

Our life experience is a reflection of our consciousness. If we find we
are faced with someone who is judgmental and wants their own way, like
it or not, we must look for those same qualities in ourselves. If we
want to change our life experience we must change ourselves. Life is a
mirror. It smiles back to us when we smile and frowns back at us when
we frown.
Cara Lumen

=====

The people we are in relationship with are always a mirror, reflecting
our own beliefs, and simultaneously we are mirrors reflecting their
beliefs. So relationship is one of the most powerful tools for
growth… if we look honestly at our relationships we can see so much
about how we have created them.
Shakti Gawain

=====
People are like stained glass windows: they sparkle and shine when the
sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light within.
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

=====

Distancing others does not bring detachment, but its opposite. Only
when you let others into your heart do you become capable of releasing
them.
Paul Ferrini

=====

The spiritual student is often seeking to transform, overcome, or slay
the ego when all that is necessary is to simply abandon it. This
requires the development of trust, faith, and confidence in the Reality
of God. When the seeking for gain is abandoned, life becomes relatively
effortless and peaceful.
David R. Hawkins

=====

Don’t waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

=====

As you learn how to do and then drop all judgment of that doing, you will find the golden path to your own salvation.

It is nice to know that, to a great extent, you can do it yourself. And
if you don’t know how to do it now, then you will evolve to where you
do know how.

It’s nice to know that there are infinite chances.

And it’s nice to know that you get to create for yourself those things that you want.

John-Roger, The Way Out Book

=====

Gratitude is one of the sweet shortcuts to finding peace of mind and
happiness inside. No matter what’s going on outside, there’s always
something we can be grateful for.
Barry Neil Kaufman

=====

Make me sweet again, Fragrant and fresh and wild, And thankful for any small event.

I lived through another birthday.  I am now mmphty-mmph years old.

The day started off great, with a phone call from my beautiful friend
Alexandra Dias.  Waking up to a beautiful voice, even if it was in
the other room on my answering machine, and learning later after
listening to it that it was from a wonderful person in Rio de
Janeiro…  ah, what bliss.

I did a couple errands with Lenny, and we went over to his house to
watch football.  The Panthers won, that also added to a good
day.  After I got home, I got more phone calls and emails and
e-cards.

Thank you to all who love me, whether you called or wrote or not.

Hugs,
Me

I love having good days.

I talked with Cathy Holt of The Kindness Campaign last night, helped
with some computer problems.  She said she would call me around 10
am to help them with a mailing that was rush-rush.  At 10:30 I got
the call, Lisa said she was emailing me a couple of files to try to
mailmerge.  I got the email around 11:00, fought with it until
11:30 when I started to win, by 11:45 I was finished with that part of
the project and know how to repeat it quickly should it occur
again.  By Noon, Lisa was over here at my apartment, and we fought
through a couple more obstacles, and by 1:30 she was calling me
“God”.  I love it when I win.  By 2 pm we were at Lisa’s
starting to collate the mailing project.  All told, there were 5
of us involved, and we were done around 5:00 pm.  Add to that the
fact that one of the volunteers working with us gave me a check for
$100 for Asheville Homeless Network.  I got to the Post Office and
mailed the stuff I needed to for Pathways Sanctuary.

Yeah, I’m tired, but I’m happy.  Kayla also called to wish me
happy birthday, and I arranged with Lenny to go get a birthday Blizzard
tomorrow, followed by an afternoon of football watching.

Hugs,
Me
