GAFilk 2017 Over

Another fantastic, fabulous, love-affirming weekend in Atlanta with my best friends. About 95 showed up, with many more having weather or health issues keeping them away.

I’m just waking up. My best friend has just left to go catch his airplane, my beautiful wife is just climbing out of the shower, and now we get to pack and head for the car. Depending on weather, we may go a couple hours out of the way, for my love would like to see the Georgia Guidestones.

I did some nice performances, some of which I have physical evidence of (video, disk). I met some people I had “known” for ages, and some who have been friends-of-friends for ages.

Time to go home and tell my cats that I did not abandon them.

Joyous Update

For anyone who may yet be curious, my burgeoning relationship with the lovely and magickal Zia Lyllyth Terranova (or, to me, Suzanne) continues to be the best thing that has ever happened to me and threatens to continue happening beyond the foreseeable future. This being the case, I eagerly await marriage to her beautiful self, an event which will take place in a few weeks (just after Thanksgiving here in the US). She is posting tons of pictures showing our happiness; I just wanted to chime in and state that the happiness shown is real and shared. This is simply amazing.

All moved in…

Little to do other than unpack boxes. I’m going tomorrow to clean the cabin and get my cleaning supplies and ironing board. Comcast came today, and it revealed that while the modem I inherited from John is OK, the router did not connect and so I have no wifi. The installer recommended a combination modem/router by Netgear, and I found it at Amazon for more than $30 less than it was at Voldemart.

Other than that, I managed to get the last couple of blinds I needed from Family Dollar and installed them.

Not much else other than phone calls going on.

Moving Along Slowly

I got to look at the inside of the trailer today for the first time. The under-floors are entirely redone, the walls are entirely repainted, and they almost had the living room retiled with the rest of the house to go. I was surprised to see that the main bedroom was in the rear of the trailer, that’s the opposite of the other trailer I lived in that was the same size, and that there was a full bath at both ends of the trailer.

I may, just may, be able to move all my non-essential stuff this weekend. I need to hear back from Ken on when he has time, and then talk to Keith about getting the keys.

My guess it that it could be two more weeks before I’m actually moved in, but I may not know what I’m talking about.

Me

And another month went by…

I was silent the entire month of June. Things are still developing, just not as quickly as I would like.

I can’t get unemployment. Not because I’m on Disability, but because I can’t work full time (because of my disability).

The trailer I’m moving to has had to be completely redone, and is not ready yet. It may be ready by the end of this week to move SOME things in, but probably not ready to move me and the kitties.

I did get approved as an Uber driver. I’m not sure whether that’s a good or bad thing, but it might help.

I stopped selling stuff because I don’t know where I’ll be when it’s time to mail it out. Or it’s too stressful to balance in the rest of my life-in-turmoil.

I will be going tonight to hear Emmie perform in Knoxville. I will be going tomorrow to give Connie her new laptop (“Mobile Workstation” – this thing is HUGE) and install RAM on her desktop, and do other things, hopefully remembering to take her old laptop so I can use or sell it. And on Thursday, I hope to get up early enough to check on the work on the trailer.

My desktop is still not working, but I’ll either get it fixed after I move or start uing one of the computers John left me. They probably run circles around mine anyhow.

Lots of emotional stuff going on. No need to get into that here. Call me if you think I need a hug, or if you do.

My cell phone is working, except it is now on a carrier which does not have service at the cabin. After I move, or whenever I’m out and about, I can be reached on it. If you think I’m at the cabin, call me at (865) 344-7156.

Housefilk

We held our third monthly housefilk (Feb, Apr, May – March had us all going to Larry Kirby’s in South Carolina) tonight. It is always such a joy to have Cat Faber and Lauren Cox come over, and this month we added to the number with Cynthia Andresen and Ken Muller. Cyn and Ken stayed until 9, we went on until 10:30. Next month’s housefilk is scheduled for the 20th.

Nothing new today on the job or other means of income.

New Plans

I find myself conflating several goals again. The goal of finding permanent housing has rung a bell with another activist advocate, who is also losing her housing. So we are discussing the likelihood of being long-term housemates. At this point the talks are going quite well. No, I’m not finding another girlfriend (some of you think that my entire life is predicated up on that; you haven’t been watching very well, have you?). I’m finding someone I can trust to keep up her end of a housing situation WHICH I COULD DO BY MYSELF, just because I like helping people.

The area I am looking to move to has a good homeless service organization, a good animal rescue organization, decent services and supports for my needs (and hers). Nothing’s perfect, but the biggest potential fly in the ointment is that somebody else could buy the house I want before I do… and there may be others in the area, although not with all the good stuff this house has.

Just putting it out there. The gods (Universe, etc.) know my heart and what I want to be doing. I hope those of you reading this will add your prayers or energy toward this end.

Hugs,
Me

New Year

Like many people, I have not been at my best for the past several weeks. The weather has been strange, with only one very light snowfall yet, and often reaches temperatures in the 70s. Either this is the Winter of Global Warming or we’re being set up.

This weekend, I will be celebrating with many friends at GAFilk. Lots of music, lots of love.

People wonder what this blog is about. I’m a psychiatric survivor, musician, direct support professional, disabled person, pagan priest, bard, friend, online groups manager, science fiction and fantasy fan, reader of much non-fiction, editor… and I love my two cats.

I get criticism that I don’t just pick one subject and blog on it, but that would mean I would need many blogs. This blog reflects my humanity, in all my failures and successes, joys and degradations. I have been trying to make myself the best person I can be, and have had a lot of success in doing so, but it is far from a finished product.

If you are someone I have helped, thank you for being there so that I could practice being the good person I intent to be. If you are someone I have refused to help, thank you for helping me set boundaries on what I can and cannot do.

Hugs,
Me

I Circle Around

Today marks the completion of my personal 63rd trip around the Home Star. I thank many of you reading this for this accomplishment, as I may not have gotten this far without you.

It is nice to be living at a time and place where, barring some really tin-foil hat government paranoia, I am safe and welcome and have all my needs met. As tin foil is extremely difficult to find these days, I should be all right. (Accept no substitutes! Aluminum is the devil!)

I don’t really have anything planned for today, except that I want to get my trusty Blue (guitar) repaired (he busted a nut — guitarists will know what I’m talking about while they’re snickering, the rest of you can just snicker and be ignorant). I also am getting a new recliner delivered (well, I have the back, just need the base — it wouldn’t fit into my little Cobalt). I may or may not go out to eat in celebration; but it’s not as though I haven’t gained enough fat storage to survive on for months. I may have friends coming over to help me in my foray for comestibles, or that may be put off until Sunday, or it may not happen at all. Rest assured, I am fat and happy — fatter than I want to be and happier than I ever imagined being. I’ve actually been breaking out into smiling fits the last two days.

If you want to do something for me, I have several suggestions. Donate to a homeless project, or even go serve food at one. Maybe find a hippo recovery project, or a zoo hippo who is under provided for. If you want to aid me directly, my CD download is still available for sale at http://mordewis.bandcamp.com .

And if you’re in the area, you are more than welcome to come hang out in the woods with me. That’s the nice thing about my current residence, lots of woods of my own to hang out in.

Hugs,
Me

Busy Guy

Today I drove to Knoxville to donate another bag of 30 knit caps to Knox Area Rescue Ministries (to add to the 28 I donated last weekend). After that, I drove to Piedmont to see Johnny Rushing and get my two 12-string guitars looked at. He fixed my old Ibanez Performance model, made a new bridge for it, then looked at my newer Dean and determined all that was wrong with it was bad strings. For that he charged me a whopping $10, to be paid when I get cash in hand. I need to go back and get the nut fixed on my blue 6-string, so I’ll just take $20 with me then. After that I went and got my car washed.

It’s nice to have my trusty Ibanez (Disciple) back in action.

Tomorrow I drive to Newport to donate a (smaller) bag of hats to a homeless project there. And on Sunday my friends Wayne and Amber are coming over to help me get some of the old shattered glass off the property — it looks like sometime 20 years ago a greenhouse fell down and was allowed to stay there. Roots and leaves and other dirt and growing things have woven through it. Every time I go pull out a layer I find five more layers beneath it. Maybe we can get it all done on Sunday.

Not much is actually going on. Just being organic about life. I have no known performances planned until GAFilk in January.

Me
